<idPurp>One foot generalization geoprocessing to reduce the number of vertices in order to run in AGO. Provide a polygon delineation of watersheds in the Sonoma County Hydro Enforcement study area. Watersheds (HUC2 through HUC14) – Watershed boundaries for nested hydrologic units from HUC 2 (region) to HUC 14 (sub-watershed). Where possible, watershed names are consistent with the NHD. Watershed mapping conventions follow those for NHD's Watershed Boundary Dataset (http://nhd.usgs.gov/wbd.html).
Use the field "HUC" to query a specific HUC class.
</idPurp>
<idAbs>

The polygon features within this dataset represent the extent of watersheds within the Sonoma County Hydro Enforcement study area. Watersheds are defined based on drainage area and confining topography, and are classified according to the existing Hydrologic Unit Codes (HUC). Watersheds were digitized using vectors and rasters derived from LiDAR data acquired for the NASA ROSES Sonoma County LiDAR and Imagery Survey (2014). The projection is California State Plane (CASP) 2, the horizontal datum is NAD83 (2011), the vertical datum is NAVD88 (Geoid 12A), and the units are US Survey Feet.

</idAbs>

The Sonoma VegMap hydrology Hydrologic Unit Code data was created specifically for local use and with the eventual intent of it being included in the WMB and NHD datasets. However at this time the data has not been standardized nor updated to replace the USGS WMB or NHD data specific to these watersheds, nor has it been provided to the USGS for that purpose. *A HUC 16 feature class was generated as part of this project, but using the same model as those above, significant issues presented and couldn't be resolved without further monitary investment. Should you wish to obtain this data please contact the data distributer for more information.
**HUC classes 14 and 16 arc considered "optional" by the USGS and as such are not required, However if a 14-digit unit is delinated, then the entire 12-digit unit covered by the 14-digit unit should be subdivided. The same would apply to a 16-digit unit in relation to the 14-digit unit area.

This process utilized hydro-enforced DEMs and modeled stream centerlines to define the bounding topography for each watershed based on it's most likely pour point. For watersheds that were confined within larger drainage basins, pour points were defined at stream confluence points.
